Bring the colours of the outdoors indoors with this cool activity! Allow the soft glow to soothe you to sleep.
What You’ll Need
Wax Paper
Contact Paper
Craft Sticks (like popsicle sticks)
A Battery Powered Light (a flame less candle works too!)
Hot Glue Gun
Brightly colored leaves, flowers and anything else you can find in nature
What To Do
** Before you complete the Nature Night Light, go for a walk outside and collect some brightly coloured leaves and/or flowers that will go on your light.
Using the hot glue gun carefully, glue together the craft sticks into 4 separate squares of the same size. Please ask for help with the glue gun. It is quite hot!
Measure and cut out 4 squares of both the contact paper and wax paper with each being the same size as the craft stick squares you made before.
Now the fun part! Peel the backing off the 4 contact paper squares and set them sticky side up on a flat surface. Take the items you collected from nature and stick them onto the 4 sticky squares. This is a collage!
Once you are happy with your 4 sticky collages, cover each contact paper with a matching square of wax paper. The nature items you picked will be sandwiched between the sticky contact paper and the wax paper.
Glue the paper packets to the back of your craft stick squares making sure your nature items appear in the window.
Once all four are done and the glue had dried, trim any paper edges sticking out of the stick squares.
At this point, call for help as you will need an extra pair of hands to help you finish making the light. Have someone hold up the 4 squares as you glue them together in a cube shape to create the 4 walls of your nature light
After waiting for the glue to dry, you can place your light inside the walls. Sit back and enjoy!
Ask Yourself
Do different nature items show up differently in the light?
What does the nature night light remind you of?
What do you love most about the outdoors?
