Make a Nature Journal

Make your own special nature journal, complete with pockets for collecting small treasures.

Supplies

  • Paper

  • Scissors or paper cutter

  • Brown paper lunch bags (2 bags makes an 8 page book)

  • Glue stick

  • Hole punch

  • Ribbon or string

Instructions

  1. Glue or tape down the flaps on each bag.

  2. Stack two bags in alternating directions and fold the bags in half.

  3. Cut paper into 5" x 5" (12.5 x 12.5 cm) squares to fit onto the pages. You'll need 8 squares if you used 2 paper bags, 12 squares if you used 3 paper bags, etc.

  4. Glue paper onto the pages of your journal.

  5. Use the hole punch to punch holes through the book along the spine. Lace ribbon or string and it it on the top cover.

  6. Take your journal outside to draw, write or collect nature treasures.

Ask Yourself

When you're outside, ask yourself some questions to help to to know what to write about or draw in your journal.

  • Record the date, time and weather

  • Draw or write about something you see

  • Draw a map of where you're going

  • Write a list of plants or animals that you see

  • Write down questions to research later
