Last year, we opened our newest land, JBJ McDonald, to the public. Since then, we’ve identified more things that need to be done in order to make this place safe and easy to explore. This land is adjacent to Lily Lake Natural Area and close to the Lu Carbyn Nature Sanctuary, supporting contiguous habitat for wildlife to travel through. This land is a stunning boreal ecosystem, and we are delighted to have our volunteers experience it with us.
Not all of the trails at JBJ McDonald can be mowed, but instead must be maintained by hand. This event will focus on establishing and maintaining the trail that travels along Lily Lake, the Brett Bog trail. This is the wettest and most narrow trail in the land, an adventure best fit for waterproof hiking boots or rubber boots! Volunteers can expect to use tools saw as pruning saws, tree loppers, and hedge trimmers.
If time permits, volunteers can join staff in replacing and fixing some signage on the land as well.
