Oust the Oxeye at Golden Ranches

Golden Ranches, as you might expect, was once a ranch filled with grazing cattle. Many years later, it is now a refuge for wildlife species of all kinds, and multiple habitat restoration efforts have gone into restoring parts of the property most heavily impacted by cattle activity.

One long-term impact common to past grazing lands is the spread of Oxeye daisy, which makes its way into the food supply of grazing animals and spreads wherever they have been present. The seeds of this plant can remain viable for decades, and we need help to manage what’s been left behind.

We will meet at Golden Ranches at 9:30 am, and leave the site by 2:30 pm.

What to bring and wear:

  • Appropriate footwear and long pants

  • Lunch

  • Water

  • Sunscreen/bugspray, and a hat

  • A camera or binoculars (optional)

If you have your own gardening tools and gloves to bring we recommend that you do so, but otherwise tools and gloves will be provided. Additional information will be sent to you several days in advance of the event.

Stewardship events are weather-dependent and subject to cancellation.
