Tackle the Tansy and Thistle at New Jubilee

New Jubilee Conservation Land is a conservation easement in the northeast corner of the city of Edmonton. New Jubilee contains one of the largest remaining tracts of old-growth forest within the city of Edmonton, making it key habitat for a diversity of wildlife. This land is not open to the public, so this event is a rare opportunity to visit.

North Saskatchewan River from New Jubilee.

Like many of our other conservation lands, invasive species outcompete native species for habitat and resources. At this event, we will pull invasive common tansy and creeping thistle from the bank of the North Saskatchewan River on this property, which will open some space for native plants to establish.

This event will involve a moderate amount of physical activity, including hiking up and downhill, bending or kneeling to pull and trim plants, and walking up to 5 km.

We will meet at New Jubilee Conservation Lands promptly at 9:30 AM, and leave the site by 2:30 PM. Wear appropriate footwear and jeans, and bring a lunch, water, and a camera or binoculars if you'd like. If you have your own work gloves to bring we recommend that you do so, but otherwise tools and gloves will be provided. Additional information will be sent to you several days in advance of the event.
