The Smith-Blackburn Homestead is a unique property located just east of Elk Island National Park, in a region recognized by UNESCO as the Beaverhills Biosphere Reserve. Home to many species of wildlife, EALT also maintains almost 40 bird boxes for House Wrens, Chickadees, and Tree Swallows at the homestead. These boxes help to provide valuable habitat for these species.
This event will be focusing on cleaning out these nest boxes so that next year’s occupants have a clean home to return or move in to. This will involve opening nest boxes, cleaning out whatever’s inside, sanitizing the box, and sometimes putting in new nesting material.
We will meet promptly at 10:00 am at the land.
