Coates Trails and Signs

Sign Installation_Coates_EALT_2020-09-27 (1).jpg

Coates is a stunning EALT Conservation Land that incorporates beautiful mixedwood forest, steep valley, trickling creek, and history (fossils!). This land has a single trail to walk on into and out of the land, and we will be working on maintaining it to improve visitor access (removing fallen trees, sawing stumps, tidying, and light clipping of the trail). We will also be fixing and installing some signs. If time permits, we will work on removing some of the common tansy near the creek as well. We will meet at Coates at 9:30 AM sharp and leave the site by 3:00 pm.

Please note: We will be crossing the creek at this event to install signs. Since the creek has been dammed and is not passable at the designated crossing point, we will hike along the creekbed and cross over the dam. The dam is quite wet and muddy so we highly recommend wearing waterproof footwear and long pants.

In addition: Wasps are currently out in large numbers, and there is a chance of getting stung at any outdoor event. Please use caution and let us know if you have severe allergies to wasp stings.

Please bring a bagged lunch, water, hat, sunscreen/bugspray, and a camera or binoculars if you'd like. If you have your own gloves and hand clippers/pruners to bring we recommend that you do so, but otherwise tools and gloves will be provided. Additional information will be sent to you several days in advance of the event.

While we resume our volunteer stewardship events, we are committed to implementing actions to comply with public health measures and workplace guidance to reduce risk of COVID-19 among staff, volunteers, and the general public. We will also be implementing updated EALT health and safety policies and procedures to support a safe work and volunteer environment. We thank you for your understanding and support as we roll out these safety measures.

Stewardship events are weather-dependent and subject to cancellation in severe weather conditions.
