Lu Carbyn Nature Sanctuary Trail Maintenance and Sign Installation

The Lu Carbyn Nature Sanctuary is a stunning quarter-section of largely undisturbed boreal forest, and the perfect haven for birds - as shown by the over 95 species recorded here! This land is a large remote wilderness, and we have installed map, boundary, and directional signs throughout the land to prepare to open it to the public. We have a bit more work to do to get this land ready.

We have two goals for this volunteer event; to maintain a trail that is overgrown with shrubs and other plants, as well as install some signs that will make the land easier to navigate. There will be some heavy lifting (carrying signs and sign posts), but many hands make light work.

We will meet at the Lu Carbyn Nature Sanctuary at 9:30 am, and leave the site by 3:30 pm. Wear appropriate footwear and long pants, and bring a lunch, water, hat, sunscreen/bugspray, and a camera or binoculars if you'd like. If you have your own gardening tools and gloves to bring we recommend that you do so, but otherwise tools and gloves will be provided. Additional information will be sent to you several days in advance of the event.

While we resume our volunteer stewardship events, we are committed to implementing actions to comply with public health measures and workplace guidance to reduce risk of COVID-19 among staff, volunteers, and the general public. We will also be implementing updated EALT health and safety policies and procedures to support a safe work and volunteer environment. We thank you for your understanding and support as we roll out these safety measures.

Stewardship events are weather-dependent and subject to cancellation.
