Pipestone Creek Conservation Lands overlook the meandering Pipestone Creek as well as an oxbow lake. They support moose, deer, and many other types of wildlife, and are well frequented by visitors who enjoy the peaceful scenery. Just like on some of our other conservation lands, here we fight to protect trees in the Prunus family (e.g. cherry trees) and others from black knot fungus, which grows within and on the outside of branches, eventually killing the tree. At this event we will remove as much fungus as we can find, and we’ll record the spots we find it for future monitoring.
We will meet at 9:00 am at South Edmonton Common to carpool to Pipestone Creek Conservation Lands. We will finish our work by 3 pm. Wear sturdy shoes and warm, comfortable clothes, and bring a lunch, water, hat, and a camera or binoculars if you'd like. Tools, gloves and extra snacks will be provided. Additional information will be sent to you several days in advance of the event.
Note: If the temperature is forecasted to be below -15 before windchill we may reschedule or cancel this event for the safety of participants.
Registration for this event is now closed, thank you for your interest!
