Beat the Black Knot at Pipestone Creek

Pipestone Creek Conservation Lands overlook the meandering Pipestone Creek as well as an oxbow lake. They support moose, deer, and many other types of wildlife, and are well frequented by visitors who enjoy the peaceful scenery. Just like on some of our other conservation lands, here we fight to protect trees in the Prunus family (e.g. cherry trees) and others from black knot fungus, which grows within and on the outside of branches, eventually killing the tree. At this event we will remove as much fungus as we can find to help the trees thrive.

We will meet at Pipestone Creek at 10:00 AM, and leave the site by 2:00 PM at the latest. Wear warm winter clothing in layers, warm sturdy boots, and bring a lunch, water, hat, and a camera or binoculars if you’d like. We also strongly recommend bringing an extra pair of socks. If you have your own gloves to bring we recommend that you do so, but otherwise tools and gloves will be provided. We will be using bleach to sanitize tools at this event. Additional information will be sent to you several days in advance of the event.

NOTE: In support of public health and the health and safety of EALT staff and volunteers, EALT is requiring proof of vaccination for our stewardship events. Please plan ahead by saving a digital copy of your vaccination QR code on your phone or printing it out and bringing it to the event.

If you have not yet completed your second dose, please plan to join a stewardship event once you are fully vaccinated. If you have a medical exemption or have youth who are not yet eligible for the vaccine, please contact EALT in advance of registration.

For more information on accessing your vaccination records, visit www.alberta.ca/covid19-vaccine.aspx. You can download or print your record in the express system at: www.albertavaccinerecord.ca/#/

We thank you for supporting public health and the health of EALT staff and volunteers in this challenging time.
