Wind the Wire at Smith-Blackburn Homestead

Smith-Blackburn Homestead is a property located east of Elk Island National Park, and is home to a vast array of wildlife, feathered, furred, and finned. We need some helping hands in order to help keep this habitat safe for its human and wildlife visitors.

Throughout the land and especially near the lake, old mature trees provide important habitat for birds, small mammals, and other wildlife.

There are portions of unused barbed wire fencing on the land that must be removed, for the benefit of wildlife and human visitors. Old barbed wire poses an injury risk to wildlife trying to pass over or under it, and can pose a hazard to humans who try to do the same.

We will meet at the Smith Blackburn Homestead at 10:00 AM and leave the site by 3:00 PM.
