Nest Box Cleaning at Smith Blackburn Homestead

Nested amongst rolling hills filled with forest, grassland, and wetlands, the Smith Blackburn Homestead is home to many species of birds. We maintain almost 40 bird boxes for House Wrens, Chickadees, and Tree Swallows at the homestead. Each year we clean out our boxes to prevent the spread of disease and parasites, and now it is time to do so. We could use a hand to carry tools, fresh sawdust, and help clean out old nesting material.

We will meet at the Smith Blackburn Homestead at 9:30 am, and leave the site by 2 pm. Wear appropriate footwear and long pants, and bring a lunch, water, hat, sunscreen/bugspray, and a camera or binoculars if you'd like. If you have your own gloves to bring we recommend that you do so, but otherwise tools and gloves will be provided. Additional information will be sent to you several days in advance of the event.

Stewardship events are weather-dependent and subject to cancellation.
