Rebecca Ellis Joins the Edmonton and Area Land Trust
EALT is delighted to have Rebecca Ellis join EALT as our new Project Coordinator. She has degrees from Alberta and Australia - a BSc in Environmental Studies & Biology, and a Master of Environmental Management with a focus on Conservation Biology. But besides her academic qualifications, she has work experience with government and a range of NFPs (including land trusts), and has a range of independent research, writing, and volunteer management skills.
Rebecca has considerable practical field experience, working in Aspen Parkland and Boreal regions, monitoring properites, plant and animal identification, baseline date experience, surveying, using field equipment, and stewarding properties.
Rebecca lives with her husband, son and two cats, and she is interested in photography and birds, as this picture illustrates!
This interest may have been developed through her work: in Queensland, researching the physiological indicators of stress in birds in a fragmented landscape; in Canada, working on bird conservation plans; and in Kenya, where her work included surveys of bird species and human-induced threats to important ecosystems. This and considerable other work experience is likely to be very valuable to this region.
Rebecca has been involved in soil surveys, transect mapping, laboratory analysis, work group organisation, and has worked as an nature interpreter at the John Janzen Nature Centre, Muttart Conservatory and the Valley Zoo outreaching to youth. She has knowledge about a range of conservation issues and management strategies, and a strong sense of linkages between disciplines.
Rebecca is looking forward to working to conserve some of the precious landscapes in and around Edmonton, to be available as a home for our wildlife and for people to enjoy. She can be reached via the EALT office, by phoning (780) 850-3270 or emailing rebecca < at > ealt.ca
We all welcome Rebecca to the EALT team!February 7, 2012
