EALT Meets with the Edmonton Nature Club
March 1, 2010
EALT was delighted to be invited to make a presentation to the Edmonton Nature Club (ENC), one of its founding members. The ENC meets at the Royal Alberta Museum each month, and this was a wonderful venue for EALT to set up an information booth, display our banners, and make the presentation to 80 attendees.
We displayed a photo album with pictures of EALT’s newly acquired Hicks property, and volunteer sheets, as well as literature available. In the presentation, we focussed on some of the issues in the Edmonton region particularly how environmental services seem to be virtually ignored in land use planning, particularly in wooded areas. We also discussed how land trusts can contribute to solutions, by working with municipalities, landowners, ENGOs, or others.
We were very pleased to have ENC volunteers sign up and express their support; and we were ‘specially grateful for the high level of participation and discussion by attendees, before, during and after the presentation. Besides the discussions, there were many intelligent and penetrating questions among attendees. And indeed, we have had follow-up well after the event. We have been asked for copies of the presentation by interested attendees and also by those who could not attend the event.
For all those who might be interested in our presentation: “What is a Land Trust? What’s in it for You? please contact us (780–483-7578 or pamwight [at] ealt.ca) and we’ll be happy to send you a copy!
